Perhaps Dr. Seuss said it best: “Christmas will always be as long as we stand heart to heart and hand in hand.”1 Dr. Seuss also said, “Christmas can’t be bought from a store. Maybe Christmas means a little bit more.”2
After these past couple years, we can enjoy the spirit of Christmas heart to heart and hand in hand with the people we love in person, celebrating our tried-and-true traditions and maybe even starting some new ones.
Some new traditions to consider this year might be:3
- Make a DIY photo booth. Set up your smartphone or tablet on a tripod along with some selfie lights, make a festive background, and provide some fun props and you’ll create memories for many years to come.
- Participate in a family toy drive. Encourage your family members to gather toys and gifts for local nonprofits, maybe Toys for Tots, to provide some cheer to children less fortunate.
- Get together and tour the neighborhood light displays. Grab some coffee or cider, hop in the car with your loved ones, and drive around your neighborhood and/or city to enjoy all the beautiful displays.
- Support a local Christmas market. Find local artisans or markets in your area and support local businesses this year.
May this Christmas bring happiness and joy to you and those you love. Merry Christmas!
